Daniela Matei, MD

Dr. Daniela Matei is the Diana, Princess of Wales Professor of Cancer Research and the Co-Leader of the Translational Research in Solid Tumors Program at Lurie Cancer Center. She is board certified in Internal Medicine and Medical Oncology. As a medical oncologist who focuses exclusively on the treatment of patients with gynecologic malignancies, she provides a uniquely focused perspective on patient care, especially for those women who have advanced or recurrent cancer.

Dr. Matei is an accomplished translational cancer scientist leading a research program focused on developing new treatments for platinum resistant ovarian cancer and new strategies to eradicate cancer stem cells. The goals of her research and clinical programs are to improve outcomes for women with ovarian cancer. By bridging basic science concepts to the clinic in a “bench to bedside” approach, she is developing novel clinical trials to benefit patients with gynecologic cancer, including several National Cancer Institute and Department of Defense-sponsored trials. She has been the recipient of several awards for her contributions to clinical and basic science cancer research.
Through her efforts in the Comprehensive Ovarian Cancer Clinic, she is able to develop an integrated treatment plan for each patient. Under Dr. Matei’s direction, the Division offers a variety of clinical trials for patients with advanced and recurrent gynecologic cancers. 

Dr. Matei’s leadership in ovarian cancer research has been recognized at a national level. She serves on the National Comprehensive Cancer Center Ovarian Cancer Guidelines Panel, an organization that establishes guidelines for standard management of patients with ovarian cancer. Dr. Matei also serves on the Ovarian Cancer Committee of NRG Oncology, an organization funded by the National Cancer Institute to develop clinical trials for patients with gynecologic malignancies.
