In an effort to provide the best possible care to oncology patients, their families and caregivers, the section of Gynecologic Oncology, along with the sections of Hematology Oncology, Surgical Oncology, and the National Ovarian Cancer Early Detection Program (NOCEDP) have joined forces with the Robert H. Lurie Comprehensive Cancer Center of Northwestern University. Today, the Lurie Cancer Center is one of two Comprehensive Cancer Centers in Illinois designated by the National Cancer Institute.
The Lurie Cancer Center provides a full range of oncology services and provides access to specialized research, clinical trials and diagnostic services. It is the only Comprehensive Cancer Center, as designated by the National Cancer Institute, in the state of Illinois.
Gynecologic Oncology provides diagnosis and treatment of tumors and cancers of the female reproductive system, as well as follow-up for abnormal Pap tests.

A Treatment Philosophy that Focuses on You
Our treatment philosophy embraces caring for the whole patient—body, mind and spirit. Winning this battle, by preventing and curing women's cancer, is something we work toward every day. We believe that every woman faced with gynecologic cancer should survive with her hopes and dreams intact.
For most cancers that afflict women, it is imperative that women are diagnosed as early as possible, so diagnostic procedures and doctors skilled at diagnosis are of the utmost importance.
How Our Care is Different
Many studies have shown that rare conditions and cancers are best treated by specialists who care for women with these conditions regularly. Our gynecologic oncologists are experts in diagnosing and treating gynecologic cancers, and we have years of experience leading gynecologic cancer programs.
We also participate in many clinical trials that help us learn more about women's cancer and how to best treat them.
If you come to Northwestern Medicine to be treated for cancer, we will work with you to find a treatment plan that works for you. We understand that every woman is different, and we will respect your desire to include personal elements in your care plan, such as:
As we move toward a cure for cancer, we do what we can with what we know today.
When women of childbearing age are diagnosed with cancer, many are concerned about losing the ability to have children. Fortunately, we are able to preserve fertility with some female cancers. Visit MyOncofertility.org for more information about preserving fertility.
