Olivia Foley, MDDr. Olivia Foley is an Assistant Professor of Gynecologic Oncology at Northwestern Medicine. Dr. Foley specializes in comprehensive care for patients with gynecologic cancers, including surgical management, chemotherapy and targeted medical treatments.
Dr. Foley is an expert in minimally invasive and robotic surgery, as well as complex abdominal and pelvic procedures, including radical debulking surgery for ovarian cancer. She also offers care for patients with a genetic predisposition to cancer and those with noncancerous gynecologic conditions that require a more extensive surgical approach. She treats her patients with compassion and works together with patients and families to develop a care plan. Dr. Foley is passionate about quality improvement efforts that help to make sure every patient gets the best possible care. She developed a quality improvement project to address nutritional causes of anemia for patients with gynecologic cancers on chemotherapy. In addition, she serves on the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology Quality Committee. Dr. Foley conducts research that studies ways to better deliver care. Her research interests include optimizing where care is provided and studying ways that patients can more easily access medical care during cancer treatment. In addition, she is highly invested in medical education, winning multiple resident and medical student teaching awards at her institution and publishing research around improving the clinical learning environment. She has co-authored over 25 peer reviewed journal articles. Dr. Foley received her medical degree from Harvard Medical School, where she stayed for her residency training at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital/Massachusetts General Hospital Integrated Residency program. She completed a fellowship in gynecologic oncology at McGaw Medical Center of Northwestern University, where she was recognized for providing patient-centered care with the Nora Cooney Mara Compassionate Care Award. Dr. She has also earned a certificate in methodology from the Northwestern Medicine Health Services & Outcomes Research Program. As an assistant professor of Gynecologic Oncology at Northwestern Medicine, Dr. Foley is invested in medical education. She has won several teaching awards and has co-authored over 25 peer-reviewed journal articles. |
